LeT plan to bomb Delhi foiled: P. Chidambaram

New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram declared on Wednesday that a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) sponsored terror bid was foiled in New Delhi. Two suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were arrested earlier in the day from the Nizamuddin area in the capital.

Chidambaram said, "Our agencies have busted a LeT sponsored module. People have been arrested in Delhi and are being presented in the court. Some other persons in other states have been detained. This module had planned a terrorist incident in Delhi. Central agencies and police have busted their plan."

While addressing a Press Conference the Home Minister said that Lashkar-e-Toiba was planning to detonate a bomb in a crowded locality in New Delhi and further interrogations will reveal more about their plan.

Terror threat looms over Delhi: Intelligence Bureau

Intelligence Bureau on Wednesday issued terror alert for national capital Delhi.

Issuing terror advisory, IB officials said that 5-6 militants have already been entered the Delhi to carry out major strikes.

According to the IB inputs, militants belong to Pakistan based terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Militants are planning to target Delhi Metro, Delhi station and Sena Bhavan, IB said in a statement after intercepting calls from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the national capital. Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad are also put on high alert following the IB alert.

French Satirical Magazine Office Fire Bombed Ahead of 'Muhammad Edition'

PARIS – French politicians and Muslim leaders denounced an arson attack early Wednesday that destroyed the offices of a satirical French newspaper after it "invited" the Prophet Muhammad as its guest editor this week.

A police official cited a witness saying that someone was seen throwing two firebombs at the building. The official was not authorized to speak publicly while an investigation was in progress.

Fire halts Swedish nuclear reactor‎
MOSCOW, 15:49 23/10/2011 October 23 (RIA Novosti)

A nuclear reactor in the Swedish town of Oskarshamn was closed down on Saturday night after a fire broke out at the nuclear power plant, Sweden's newspaper Local reported on Sunday, referring to the plant's operator, OKG.

The fire broke out in the turbine hall of unit 2 and was quickly put out by the plant's own emergency services, after which the reactor and the turbine were closed down as a precautionary measure.

"Fires are always serious in this type of facility, but this happened in the conventional turbine hall and not in the reactor itself," said Anders Osterberg, OKG communications director.

Unit 2 was restarted this week following its annual maintenance check, the Local said.

The Oskarshamn nuclear plant is located on Sweden's south west coast, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Oskarshamn. The plant's three reactors produce about 10 percent of the country's electricity.

An immigration racket operating from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has been unearthed with the arrests of a trio using fake immigration stamps to fly overseas on a connecting domestic flight, police said on Sunday. According to the police, the operation came to light after a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official intercepted a passenger carrying fake security stamps of the Bureau of Immigration and Air India minutes before boarding an Air India flight to Canada via Amritsar on Saturday night.

Al Qaeda, LeT planned to attack CWG venues on Oct 12-13

New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) Al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Taiba had planned to attack some venues of the just-concluded Commonwealth Games on October 12 and 13, prompting the government to put in place a four-layer security arrangement in the last three days of the sporting extravaganza.

Besides this, in a bid to destroy the highly-secured security structure put in place by India, hundreds of cyber attacks were carried out, which were suspected to be originating from China, to penetrate the computerised system and servers during the Games fortnight.

A Western intelligence agency had tipped off the government on October 10 that al Qaeda and LeT militants, trained along the Afghan-Pakistan borders, would try to attack a few venues and a hotel, government sources said.

Alarmed by the input, the government enhanced the security of the Games venues and Village from three layers to four and brought in additional forces, including heavily-armed commandos, to foil any attempt of sabotage even from air.

News Desk: Breaking News! The Telangana activists in Andhra Pradesh attacked TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's convoy. Naidu escaped unhurt, while four people sustained injuries.The incident occurred at Pargi in the Ranga Reddy district of the state, when Chandrababu Naidu was heading towards Mahbubnagar district to meet the farmers.The pro-Telangana activists tried to block Naidu's convoy and asked him to go back. The driver applied presence of mind and sped away the vehicle. Out of the four injured, one was a police constable.As the mob resorted to stone pelting, the police used batons to bring the situation under control

Mumbai on alert after two suspected terrorists enter city

On the eve of Eid and start of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, Mumbai police said two foreign nationals with suspected terror links have sneaked into the city after which the metropolis was put on high alert.The police refused to reveal the nationality of the two men whose photographs were released at a hurriedly called news conference.

They were however identified as Kalimuddin Khan (28) and Hafij Sarif (25).Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy issued an advisory to the public to remain alert and vigilant after inputs from central intelligence agencies said the two had entered the city to cause disruption at crowded places during the festival season.

“We would like to issue an advisory...We have intelligence inputs that two foreign nationals have entered the city with intention to cause disruption at crowded and religious places,” Roy said.

26 CRPF men killed in Naxal ambush in Chhattisgarh

At least 26 CRPF personnel were on Tuesday gunned down in a deadly Naxal ambush in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh.

The Maoists opened fire from a hilltop when the paramilitary men were returning from road opening duty on foot, CRPF Chief Vikram Srivastava said in New Delhi.

Acccording to preliminary information, four special police officers (SPOs) of Chhattisgarh Police along with some CRPF personnel were also injured in the attack. The condition of one of the SPOs is stated to be serious, officials said.

The troops were from the 39th battalion of the force and were a part of its ‘E’ and ‘F’ companies.

The troops were ambushed near Daurai Road area in the remote district, about 300 kms from Raipur.

This is the third major Naxal attack on the CRPF since the Maoist strike on a force contingent on April six in Dantewada killing 75 of its personnel and a Chattisgarh policeman.

On May 8, eight men of the paramilitary force were killed when naxals blew up a mine-proof vehicle also in Narayanpur district.

CHENNAI: Three days after the Mangalore aircrash, three planes that had been diverted from Delhi airport on account of VIP movement, had a narrow shave when they all but ran out of fuel above Jaipur airport. The three flights had more than 450 passengers on board at the time. Wednesday's Jetlite flight JLL 108 from Mumbai landed with just enough fuel to remain airborne for three minutes. The Mumbai-Delhi Kingfisher flight IT 300 landed just 10 minutes before its fuel tank ran dry. Jet Airways 9W 2357 from Chennai made it onto the runway with fuel for just 13 minutes of flying time. Both Jet planes were Boeing 737s and carried 192 and 174 people each.

Bangalore: The followers of spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar were in a state of shock as the news of an unidentified man opening fire at the ashram spread across the globe.

According to a press statement issued by the Art of Living (AOL) International Centre, a gunman opened fire as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar left the venue after a discourse. The guru was in the car when the shot was fired.

“While leaving after the public satsang (discourse) this (Sunday) evening in Bangalore, an unidentified gunman shot at Sri Sri’s convoy. It hit one of the devotees’ thigh, causing a minor injury,” the statement said.

The spiritual guru was unhurt and later addressed another discourse on Sunday.
