Fire halts Swedish nuclear reactor‎
MOSCOW, 15:49 23/10/2011 October 23 (RIA Novosti)

A nuclear reactor in the Swedish town of Oskarshamn was closed down on Saturday night after a fire broke out at the nuclear power plant, Sweden's newspaper Local reported on Sunday, referring to the plant's operator, OKG.

The fire broke out in the turbine hall of unit 2 and was quickly put out by the plant's own emergency services, after which the reactor and the turbine were closed down as a precautionary measure.

"Fires are always serious in this type of facility, but this happened in the conventional turbine hall and not in the reactor itself," said Anders Osterberg, OKG communications director.

Unit 2 was restarted this week following its annual maintenance check, the Local said.

The Oskarshamn nuclear plant is located on Sweden's south west coast, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Oskarshamn. The plant's three reactors produce about 10 percent of the country's electricity.

Immigration racket busted at IGI

An immigration racket operating from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has been unearthed with the arrests of a trio using fake immigration stamps to fly overseas on a connecting domestic flight, police said on Sunday. According to the police, the operation came to light after a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official intercepted a passenger carrying fake security stamps of the Bureau of Immigration and Air India minutes before boarding an Air India flight to Canada via Amritsar on Saturday night.

Mumbai on alert after two suspected terrorists enter city

On the eve of Eid and start of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, Mumbai police said two foreign nationals with suspected terror links have sneaked into the city after which the metropolis was put on high alert.The police refused to reveal the nationality of the two men whose photographs were released at a hurriedly called news conference.

They were however identified as Kalimuddin Khan (28) and Hafij Sarif (25).Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy issued an advisory to the public to remain alert and vigilant after inputs from central intelligence agencies said the two had entered the city to cause disruption at crowded places during the festival season.

“We would like to issue an advisory...We have intelligence inputs that two foreign nationals have entered the city with intention to cause disruption at crowded and religious places,” Roy said.

CHENNAI: Three days after the Mangalore aircrash, three planes that had been diverted from Delhi airport on account of VIP movement, had a narrow shave when they all but ran out of fuel above Jaipur airport. The three flights had more than 450 passengers on board at the time. Wednesday's Jetlite flight JLL 108 from Mumbai landed with just enough fuel to remain airborne for three minutes. The Mumbai-Delhi Kingfisher flight IT 300 landed just 10 minutes before its fuel tank ran dry. Jet Airways 9W 2357 from Chennai made it onto the runway with fuel for just 13 minutes of flying time. Both Jet planes were Boeing 737s and carried 192 and 174 people each.

Maoists Kill Four Security Jawans in Jamui

Patna: August 22, 2009

Heavily armed Maoist ultras on Saturday shot and killed four policemen and injured two other jawans in Jamui district after launching an assault on a police patrol team under Sono police station.

Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Neelmani, while confirming the incident, said a a police sub-inspector and three Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) jawans were killed and two other policemen hurt when the patrolling team came under intense gunfire and bomb explosion from over 40 Maoist guerillas.

While retaliatory shots were fired by the security officials, it was not clear if any terrorist was killed in the encounter.

Reinforcements were sent from Jamui, Patna, and Bhagalpur to conduct raids in the dense forest believed to be the hideouts of the extremists, Neelmani said.

Close shave for 141 passengers of Air India flight

CHENNAI: It was a close shave for 141 passengers and crew of a Chennai-bound Air India flight as the pilot managed to safely land the aircraft there Saturday despite a tyre burst while taking off from Singapore.
